Thomas Heary (born: 14 February 1979) is a central defender, and club captain at Oriel Park, who was part of the League & FAI Cup double-winning Bohemians team last season, before he signed for Dundalk to rejoin forces with his former Bohs boss Sean Connor. Thomas started his career in England with Huddersfield Town and broke into the first team during the 1996/97 season. He made over 100 appearances for the club between then and 2003, during which period he played in and won the UEFA European Under-19 Football Championship with the Republic of Ireland in 1998. Also part of that team was Aidan Lynch, who captained Dundalk to last year’s First Division title.
Heary left Huddersfield in May 2003 and a month later joined Bohemians. On the first day of the 2005 season, the centre-half got injured against Shamrock Rovers and missed almost the entire campaign. He made 13 appearances (nine from the start) last year as Bohs won the League & Cup double, however, despite that, he was deemed surplus to requirements at the end of the season by Pat Fenlon and soon joined Dundalk, where he was immediately made captain. He made his debut for the Lilywhites in the opening night defeat by Bohemians at Oriel Park on 6 March.
