08 MARCH 2008// POST MATCH REACTION : DAVID CASSIDY

“It’s the first game of the season and it’s a good point, but that point will mean nothing unless we go and win next Thursday” - Cassidy

Nine-man Dundalk were made to work extra hard to earn their point at the weekend, and it was a draw which was thanks in no small part to a superb display by ‘Man of the Match’, David Cassidy. Singled out by dundalkfc.com as the key man in the season ahead, Cassidy showed his invaluable worth to the club here as he put in a simply outstanding performance throughout the game.

Despite the scoreless draw, however, Cassidy was in a mixed state following the final whistle, in a game which was shaped by the man in the middle. When asked if happy, Casso admitted to dundalkfc.com: “Not really. The referee ruined the game, for us anyway"

“In the end, we have to be happy with the result, especially here against Shels - they’re among the favourites with us to win the league, so a point will suit us more than them, because they still have to come to us. The lads gave everything they could have given tonight, so John had to say nothing really inside afterwards.

“It’s the first game of the season and it’s a good point, but that point will mean nothing unless we go and win next Thursday - then it will be a good enough start. It will be another tough game against Monaghan - every game in this division is always tough. But if you want to win the league, you have to beat all these teams, especially at home, where you want to win all your games.”
