Activities at the Soccer Superstart Challenge got underway at 12.00pm with local Dundalk FM radio broadcasterJohn Murphy introducing the Minister for Foreign Affairs, Dermot Ahern, who took aim at the Eircom League of Ireland inflatable.
Dermot was in a group that had Tommy McConville (Dundalk Local Hero and Legend), John Gill (Dundalk FC Manager), Jim D'arcy (Chairman of Dundalk Town Council), Paddy Keenan (Louth GAA Center Midfielder), and Philip Kirk, local Businessman. Dermot and Tommy McConville qualified for a sudden death playoff, with Tommy ending up winning.
We had significant numbers turn up on the day with 500+ taking part,
including all of Dundalk FC's first team, and the activities finished up at
5.00pm with three individual finals for the U-12, U-16 and senior
categories. The winners go on represent Dundalk FC and themselves at
provincial finals with the winners of this going on to the Final which will
be held at the League Cup Final.
The winners were as follows:
1. U-12: Aidan Mc Donnell.
2. U-16: Conor Mackin (plays for Dundalk Schoolboy U-14 Team)
3. Senior: John Mc Kenny.
