Barrett: We Can Beat Them
Dundalk FC defender, Patrick Barrett, believes the team have what it takes to travel to Norway and win when they play Rosenborg BK in the second-leg of the UEFA Champions League Second Qualifying Round.
Having drawn 1-1 at Oriel Park in the first-leg, the Lilywhites know they need to score to have a chance of progression to play Celtic or Linfield in the next round.
Speaking to dundalkfc.com, Barrett said: “I thought we were very good on the night. For the whole game we were very good and it was just a lack of concentration to give away such a disappointing goal which gives them the upper hand.
“But, looking back on it overall I think that we were the better side and it was very disappointing to concede the goal.
Barrett expects a difficult task at Lerkendal Stadion but the 23-year-old knows that if the team play to their potential then the can come out as winners.
“Knowing we have to score away from home is a little bit of added pressure. It helps us too though, because if we were leading now at the minute going over to Norway then I think we would be sitting off and inviting pressure on to us.
“Now that we need to score I think it will help us as we will be able to go over and take chances and push up the field to get that goal that we need.
“It brings us back to that game with FH last year, when we conceded another sloppy goal at Oriel Park and we went over to Iceland and got the result that we needed. After the FH game we were disappointed that it was 1-1 and they got the away goal, which knocked our confidence a bit.
“We know that with the group of lads that we have that we’re capable of going to Norway and getting the result that we need.”
