Benson: Hungry to Start

First Team News
// 10 Jan 2018

Midway through his first week of pre-season training in 2018, Robbie Benson has reported on the hard work he anticipates paying off.

The Athlone native, joined up with the squad on Saturday for the first time in the New Year, and he has been part of each day’s intense training sessions.

“We were back on Saturday for a fitness test and then again on Monday for the first time training in the morning so it’s a bit of a change getting used to. It was a tough session again and we’re expecting the same again for the next one,” Benson notes.

“With pre-season training we don’t see the football as much as usual and it’s good being in in the mornings as we all meet an hour early and go over to the, then we do the tough stuff on the training pitch and again after we return to the gym together and do a little session – it’s really good for getting everyone integrated together, especially all the new lads.”

The 25-year-old midfielder reflected with dundalkfc.com on the break at the end of last season and his aim for the 2018 campaign.

“I think everyone is looking forward to the season to start this year because we had a long layoff compared to last year. Coming back last year didn’t really feel like a new season, it felt like it was just following on.

“We’re gearing up nicely for the start of the season in a couple of weeks. This is a fresh season and we are hungry to get our league title and cup back again.”
