Gannon: Go Again
Seán Gannon was full of praise for the side following a scintillating display against Limerick FC at Oriel Park. It was an emphatic victory and one which saw the three-in-a-row Champions return to winning ways in the SSE Airtricity League.
Patrick McEleney scored a wonderful free-kick to give the home side the lead before Brian Gartland doubled the advantage with a close range header and Robbie Benson added a third.
“It was a great win,” stated Gannon. “To get back to winning ways at home is brilliant, obviously last week against Sligo we huffed and puffed, played well but it just wasn’t our night. I thought we had a few good chances in the first half against Sligo but we didn’t take them.
“We moved on from that, prepared well all week and put in a good performance tonight – we know this is a massive week for us going into the two cup games so we need to make sure that we’re going in in good form.”
The Lilywhites face Galway Untied FC in the EA SPORTS Cup, semi-final on Monday followed by the visit of Derry City FC in the Irish Daily Mail FAI Cup, first round.
“It’s going to be a tough game. With it being the semi-final of the cup they’re going to be right up for it and so are we. I hope there is going to be great support for us there and they get behind us to push us over the line.
“We are going to prepare properly over the weekend, we’ll recover well and get ready to go again Monday.”
