Gannon: Prepare Well

First Team News
// 12 Sep 2017

In the build-up to the EA SPORTS Cup final, Seán Gannon speaks about the feelings games such as these carry.

Saturday sees a repeat of the 2014 final when the Lilywhites last reached this stage of the competition, it was the first trophy Gannon lifted as a Dundalk FC player when his side recorded a 3-2 victory at Oriel Park.

He points out that the team will prepare properly for this team and the challenge of keeping his place in the starting XI with such a strong squad.

“There is a trophy at stake and Shamrock Rovers will be looking to win it just as much as us. It’s a live cup final on the TV and hopefully there is a big crowd because they are the games that you want to be a part of.”

“We will prepare well this week and go and do the business,” Gannon said as he looks forward to the final.

“We tend to treat every game with the same respect, we prepare properly for every game as Stephen would never let us slack off.

“We prepare as a team as we always do and come next Saturday hopefully we’ll be the ones lifting the trophy.

“I’m happy with my own performances at the moment, I know that if I don’t perform there are some great players on the bench who will come in and take your spot so that’s a bit of an added incentive.

“I think competition makes you a better player, you have to always keep your standard up and keep improving as a player and that is what I always try and do.”
