Dundalk FC are delighted to confirm that defender Sean Gannon has signed a new contract with the club.

The right back who will now enter his fourth season at the club in 2017 having joined the club ahead of the 2014 season. The Dubliner has had a hugely successful time at the club winning all domestic honours including the FAI Cup, the EA Sports Cup, the President’s Cup and three league titles in a row. He also featured prominently in the European campaign this season featuring in the 12 matches including all 6 Europa League Group D ties.

He won the league title with the Saints having joined from Shamrock Rovers and moved to Dundalk where he has made the full-back position his own and has become a fans favourite.

He has also been named in the PFAI Team of the Year in 2014, 15 and 16.

Speaking to dundalkfc.com after signing his new deal he expressed his delight at getting the contract sealed and is looking forward to a ‘new challenge’ at the club in 2017.

“I am absolutely delighted to have re-signed for the club. I am coming back to an unbelievable squad which is what I want and where I want to be.

“We have a new challenge now and that is to go one better than we did this year. The European run in the Europa League Group Stages was amazing and I am happy to be back and play with these players again. ”

The European run has been an undoubted highlight for a lot of the players and the club itself but that has just given Gannon ‘a taste’ for it and he is intent on repeating the success.

“For the club, for the players and for the supporters it is brilliant to be a part of the European nights and to have an extended run this year by getting to the groups it is what we all strive to do and improve. ”

“We want to do what we did last year again. We want to compete in the Champions League. It was such a history making year. We had a taste of how things are at that level and we want to go for it again. We want to have more of the nights that we had. ”

The Dublin native reflected on a remarkable three seasons at the club where he has swept all domestic honours stating he wasn’t going anywhere else but has pointed to next year and is already thinking of the league title vowing not to give it up.

“For myself personally I am very hungry. In my three years at the club I have won three league titles, the FAI Cup, the EA Sports Cup, the President’s Cup, Leinster Senior Cup and competed in Europe every year. There’s no way I wanted to go anywhere else.

“I am very hungry to get back to those great nights again. We have had a few of them in the last few years and the challenge is there for the four leagues in a row. It’s a massive motivation for us.

“We are the holders of the league title and we don’t want to give it up!”
