Gartland: Gearing up for Season
Dundalk are into their second week back in pre-season this week and speaking to dundalkfc.com defender Brian Gartland has praised the attitude of his fellow team mates over the last 10 days.
“It has been a great week back at training with some tough running, as there always is but you know what to expect when you’re coming back.
“You need to set a good foundation to build your fitness for the season, pre-season is always very good here. The setup is great in terms of the training and that – it’s tough, you don’t want to do it but you have to do it.
“The attitude from everyone has been great and we know what we have to do.”
The Lilywhites have made the switch to morning training this year which is something that has been welcomed by everyone and the Dublin native looked ahead to getting back in action in competitive fixtures.
“Training in the mornings has been brilliant. We’ve a bit more energy because I suppose at the end of the day you can be a bit more tired. In the evening time you were coming in to do a hard slog of a session – I think you can get more out of us in the mornings.
“Energy levels are much higher so it’s great and we’ve more free time so leisurely it’s a bit nicer for your own life.
“I can’t wait to get going. It’s been a longer break since last year, you need the time off but then you’re raring to go again. Especially after not winning the league last season – we want to get back at it and try and get the trophy back.”
