Gartland Happy With Workout
Dundalk centre-half Brian Gartland expressed his delight at getting game time on Monday in the EA SPORTS Cup and speaking to dundalkfc.com, Gartland wasn’t sure he’d even last the 90 minutes let alone the 120 but was pleased to get into the last eight.
“I was delighted to get through on Monday night. To get into the next round was the aim and we managed to do that. We set out to get into the quarter-finals and we did…after two hours! But we did it. For myself, personally it was good to get a game.
“I was worried that I wasn’t going to last 90 minutes so to last two hours and feeling good I was delighted with that work out.”
We travel to Bray on Friday and Gartland is wary of the threat that they pose and conceded that the scoreless draw on the opening night looks like ‘two points dropped’ however insists the Lilywhites are fully focused on themselves and wants three points to take into the match in Limerick on Tuesday evening.
“We got them on the first day of the season and they were full of beans that night. They managed to stop us and from our point of view, it’s two points dropped considering how things have gone on since. We are just hoping that with the manager gone they get the bounce or the kick back from it like teams do.
“Sometimes teams get that buzz whenever a manager leaves and they get a result or a few in the weeks after that. We can only look at ourselves and there are always a lot of variables going into a game like that, things that we can’t control so we won’t worry about those.
“We just have to focus on the game itself and make sure that we do everything we can to get the three points. It’s an important three points for us, they all are and then we can focus on Limerick on Tuesday.”
