Kenny Going For Youth in Leinster Clash
Dundalk return to action quickly after their victory over Bohemians with the Leinster Senior Cup match against Shamrock Rovers on Monday evening.
A facile 3-0 victory thanks to a hat-trick from Patrick Hoban, over Bohemians on Friday night briefly had the Lilywhites in third place however they have since dropped back to fourth due to other results this weekend but are level on points with Derry City and Sligo Rovers (39) while they sit four points behind the leaders St. Patrick’s Athletic(43).
Back to immediate matters and Dundalk have a small break from league action as they return to Leinster Senior Cup action for the first time since February when they beat Sherriff YC away from home after extra-time.
For the match itself, manager Stephen Kenny will indeed totally shuffle his pack and it is unlikely that many of the first-team will feature however Aaron Shanahan is in line to start in goal. Players from the underage set up such as Manuel Kaguako, Paul Finnegan, John McKeown, Paul Finnegan, Ciaran O’Connor, Conor McDonald and Kevin Nolan will all come into the picture.
“I am putting out a developmental squad on Monday in the Leinster Senior Cup against Shamrock Rovers. I don’t like doing that but we’re at the stage where we have a lot of injuries and a few suspensions for the big match against Cork City next weekend. Everyone that will play in Cork next week will have to rest up. We are down to the bare bones so we have to see what we’ve got. We will have a young squad on Monday but Friday is our priority”
