Massey: Pleased With Performance
Dundalk FC moved to the summit of the SSE Airtricity League after a 4-1 victory against Derry City at the Brandywell on Monday night.
Stephen Kenny’s side came back from a goal behind thanks to Brian Gartland, Robbie Benson, Michael Duffy and Krisztian Adorjan getting on the scoresheet.
Dane Massey reflected on being the first team to defeat the Candystripes at home so far this season “It was a good performance especially after Friday night’s win against Sligo” he said.
“The busy schedule is hard with two games a week and we knew it was going to be difficult coming to the Brandywell to play Derry – I’m very happy with the win and thought our performance was excellent.
The Lilywhites found themselves a goal down when Darren Cole put the home side in front, Brian Gartland equalised for Dundalk when he headed home from a Duffy corner.
“To go a goal behind at the Brandywell is a difficult place to come back from but everybody gathered around and Garts came in with a big goal. He’s a real leader for us and he has shown that again tonight,” said Massey.
“Our second goal great team move. We played some nice one touch football around their box and moved it quick and Robbie doesn’t miss chances like those – it was a great goal.
“It was a great ball across and Mickey took a touch and went by the defender. He’s in flying form and playing with confidence so it’s no surprise he scored a great goal like that.
“It was fantastic for Krisztian to come on and score, he’s had a tough time lately with not playing as much as he like so for him to come on and score will do him no harm at all.
Dundalk are next in action when the travel to Dublin to take on Bohemian FC in the SSE Airtricity League on Friday night.
“We are away to Bohs at Dalymount on Friday night. We know it’s going to be another difficult game as Keith Long will have them well organised but we will prepare as much as we can before that match.
“We’re taking it one game at a time but three points tonight is the main thing.”
