McMillan: Team Effort

EA Sports Cup
// 18 Sep 2017

David McMillan paid tribute to his team-mates after collecting the Man of the Match award for his goal scoring performance in Saturday’s EA SPORTS Cup final victory.

The strikers’ quality was evident during the Lilywhites 3-0 win over Shamrock Rovers at Tallaght Stadium. It was McMillan that netted the opener.

He received the Man of the Match award after the game. Though understandably delighted with the accolade, McMillan was keen to highlight the group’s efforts after another memorable afternoon at Tallaght Stadium.

“We started really well and to help the team by scoring is brilliant. I’m thrilled,” he said. “It’s nice to win the Man of the Match award but once we won the trophy then I’m happy. I just want to work hard and score as much as I can to help the team.

“To win another trophy is fantastic for the club. We’ve had a tough year in the league but we have two cup that we want to try and win – thankfully we won one on Saturday.”

McMillan spoke of continuing to work hard for the rest of the season as we still have aspirations to reach the AVIVA Stadium for the third year.

“The semi-final is a big game for us, our aim is to win two trophies. We want to maintain a good league form going into that game and try and win that and give Dundalk FC supporters another day out in the AVIVA Stadium.

“We haven’t had the season that we wanted in the league as we would have loved to have won another league title, but as I said we’ve two things we can win so we’ll try and do that now.

“We’re hungry to win trophies, we’ve another big semi-final coming up against Rovers again so we look forward to that.”
