‘Patrons and Players – A July Window of Opportunity’.
Ian Foster backs Patron Scheme initiative for July Player signings

The July transfer window is a once-off opportunity for the club to strengthen the player squad and add depth to help sustain a challenging position both in domestic competition and in the Europa League.

While the Board of Dundalk FC and the DFC Supporters Trust recognise the need and desirability to invest further in the first team squad, the current finances of the club simply do not allow a significant expansion of the current budget. ‘Patrons and Players – A July Window of Opportunity’ is a drive which calls on Dundalk fans to assist the club in maximising the opportunity to strengthen the playing squad in the July transfer window. By joining the Patron Scheme in the month of June supporters can make an immediate difference to the funds available for July player signings. The sole objective of the Patron Scheme is to raise funds to increase the size of the playing budget available to the team management.

The Patron Scheme is an affordable method of supporting the club on an ongoing basis, where the supporter can choose the level of support that suits. There are three different levels of membership - Silver from only €4 per week, Gold from €8 per week, and Platinum from €15 per week. Each of these levels provides a number of excellent benefits to the member such as a free Merchandise item, entry to monthly draw, 10% discount in Club Shop and World Cup Barbecue at all levels (the Gold and Platinum levels have even more benefits!). You, the fan, decide how much you can pay within the three membership bands. Further details are available from www.dundalkfc.com.

You can join the Patron Scheme either by completing a monthly bank account standing order, a monthly credit card payment or by lump sum cash payments, either once-off or in two six-monthly payments. You can sign-up online at www.dundalkfc.com, or in person at Oriel Park. Alternatively you can download the application form from the website and send by post or by hand on match nights.

Patron Scheme Sign-up and Europa League Information Evening – Monday June 7

An information evening giving the latest on the Oriel Park upgrades, UEFA stadium inspection, Europa League developments and travel plans as well as further information on the Patron Scheme, will take place in the Lilywhite Lounge on Bank Holiday Monday June 7 at 8.30pm. Ian Foster will host a Question and Answer session and give some insights into his hopes for potential July signings.

Gerry Matthews added “As it stands at the moment we are very limited as to our ability to add to the current squad. We have committed heavily to the upgrading of Oriel Park in order to host European football for the first time in 19 years, and although we hope for a sell out for the First Round tie, the gate receipts won’t come near matching the outlay on the ground improvements. While we will have the benefit of UEFA participation money later in the year, depending on the luck of the draw this could easily be swallowed up in travel costs to places like Azerbaijan or Kazakhstan. If we could get 100 additional supporters signing up to the Patron Scheme this month this would generate over €20,000 over the course of the year and would make an enormous difference to the type of business that Ian Foster can complete for early July signings.”

Ian Foster commented “The demanding schedule of 14 games over 8 weeks in April and May has clearly been very challenging despite the relative good fortune with injuries and suspensions. Currently 8 games are scheduled for the month of July alone and advancement in the Europa League First Qualifying Round would see this increase to a staggering 10 games in the space of only 31 days. The players have been brilliant with what they have achieved so far, but other clubs will strengthen during the transfer window and it is clear that if we are to maintain the momentum we need to add additional quality in key positions. I know that many supporters are finding it difficult financially, but if we can get the support of more people joining the Patron Scheme in June we can make further progress towards re-establishing the club at the forefront of premier football in Ireland”
