O’Connor: Confident Captain
Dundalk FC Under-19s will continue their bid to lift the Enda McGuill Cup for the first time when they travel to take on UCD at the UCD Bowl on Thursday night. Kick-off at 7.30pm.
Looking ahead to the encounter, Under-19s captain Jake O’Connor, anticipates a tough battle but feels there is enough quality within the team to win the Cup. Speaking to dundalkfc.com, he also explains how he feels no extra pressure leading the side out.
“It’s just important that the lads have a good mentality towards the game. We will aim to get at them and hopefully we will win,” said the skipper.
“UCD will have good support and hopefully we will too, it will be a close game I feel anyway. We are not a side to fear anyone, we know that we have the capability to win the game so hopefully that is what we do.
“I don’t feel any added pressure wearing the captains’ armband, if anything it gives me confidence. I feel like a leader out on the pitch but it is all about making other people feel the same and have a good game.
“It’s nothing really just because the armband is on, as I said it’s more about doing my best for the team.”
