O’Donnell: No Easy Way
With pre-season underway this week at Oriel Park the main aim of the crucial preparatory period leading up to the start of the 2018 SSE Airtricity League season is to have the players in prime condition.
With this in mind, there is understandably little time for play, something Stephen O’Donnell explains as he talks to dundalkfc.com about pre-season preparations.
“Every day of training is going to be tough for the next week and a half or so, but there is no easy way of getting fit, you just have to do it, says the captain.
“There is a good sense of satisfaction when you’re finished a session and you are one step closer to getting your fitness levels up.
“I’m looking forward to the start of the season and I feel a lot more refreshed, I think everyone does coming in to the season,” continues O’Donnell.
“There is a big difference in this season compared to last year when it felt a bit like two seasons rolled in to one. This year we are all a lot more refreshed and hopefully that will show at the start of our season.”
As the Lilywhites ready themselves for competitive action he 31-year-old spoke of the aim this year, both as team and personally.
“This year personally I would like to have a good season, try to keep my body as injury free as possible and obviously help the team as much as possible.
“The team goals are trying to regain the league title, that’s our main priority but you have to take it one step at a time.
“For now we will get ourselves as fit as possible and then when the season starts we’ll take it week-by-week.”
