O’Donnell: We’re Buzzing
Stephen O’Donnell’s second goal of the season may have taken a while to arrive but it was one worth waiting for.
The Galwegian’s superb looping header put the seal on Tuesday’s win over Shamrock Rovers and although he does not consider it the best he has ever scored, it counts as important as any wearing a Dundalk shirt.
“We’re buzzing. It’s one of the best feelings that we’ve had I think, just the way it went and the way we were down to the bare bones,” said O’Donnell.
“Lads that were injured came on the pitch for boys that were already patched-up and had to come off. It was a great squad performance by everyone and it really showed our character and spirit.
“We thought that if we got to half-time in extra-time then we’d have the elements with us and it helps you get up the pitch. We thought we’d have a right chance at winning the game in the last 15 minutes and that’s the way it proved to be.”
With a third consecutive Irish Daily Mail FAI Cup final to look forward to at the AVIVA Stadium against Cork City, the captain concluded by saying he has his sights set on his own domestic cup double.
“We are buzzing for the final. I suppose we might think that we left one behind us last year so we have the chance to put it right, it’s not going to be easy as Cork are more than likely going to be going for the double but we’ll be happy enough with our season if we manage to finish second and win the two cups.”
