Team news vs Cork City

Match Preview
// 16 Feb 2017

Dundalk travel to Turner’s Cross to take on Cork City in the season curtain raiser – The President’s Cup.

It has been 10 weeks since the 2016 season came to an end for Dundalk in Israel and they now look forward to the 2017 campaign with renewed confidence to retain their title.

They were defeated in the President’s Cup last season at Turner’s Cross also against Cork City and will be hoping to reclaim the trophy which they won in 2015 against St. Patrick’s Athletic.

The sides met on five occasions last year with Cork winning four including in the President’s Cup. The Lilywhites sole victory came in the crunch league match in October.

Speaking ahead of the match to dundalkfc.com midfielder Patrick McEleney and he feels that the champions are still going to pose a threat in the attacking third this season like last year and is looking forward to renewing the rivalry with Cork City tomorrow night.

“I think we’re still going to be a big attacking threat this season. Obviously the lads (Horgan & Finn) are a big loss but the Gaffer has always found players. The players that have come in have done brilliant, so we’re looking forward to it.

“We take every competition seriously. We pride ourselves on winning trophies so we’re definitely not going to take the President’s Cup against Cork lightly.

“We want to win every game. It’s another trophy, so we’ll look forward to it.”
