Audio: Kierans Praises Trio / Hawkins Reacts
Dundalk FC assistant manager Darius Kierans has praised Colin Hawkins, Jason Byrne and Daniel Kearns for their “commitment to the football club and the rest of their teammates”, after the trio all started Monday’s draw against Shamrock Rovers despite suffering from knocks and illness.
On the side’s display, Kierans said: “I thought it was a solid performance from us in very difficult conditions…if we had lost the game today it would have been criminal. I think we definitely deserved at least a draw.”

Meanwhile, Hawkins admitted that he “wasn’t expecting to play” and made the trip to Oriel Park “to watch the game”, as he struggled with both a vomiting bug and hamstring injury.
The 33-year-old added: “I done a bit of a warm-up with Jason Byrne and it felt OK. I wanted to play. I knew it would be a good atmosphere and I wanted to get out there and play. I didn’t honestly think I’d last the 90 minutes, so I’m just lucky to get through it, really…it was a bit of a risk playing.”
