Dundalk FC Ladies 2-0 Bellurgan United
NEFL Women’s Division North
Katie Brophy and Caoimhe Crichton were both on the score sheet once again when Dundalk Ladies beat an experienced Bellurgan side on Monday night.
The game got off to a lively start, with the Lilywhites providing the majority of the attacking play, with Bellurgan holding firm at the back.
The visitors were very difficult to break down but Eddie Conroy’s side remained patient in their build-up play, and they were rewarded on the half hour mark when they were awarded a penalty for a handball in the box. Katie Brophy stepped up to take the spot kick and she slotted home past the Bellurgan goalkeeper to make it 1-0 to the Lilywhites.
Dundalk very nearly added a second before the half time break, when a brilliant cross into the box found Sarah McHugh, but her effort crashed off the crossbar.
Conroy’s side continued their good form at the start of the second period, but Bellurgan soon had a spell in control, creating some good opportunities without having any major chances to score.
Despite their control of possession, Bellurgan were leaving themselves open on the counter attack, and they were punished on the 65 minute mark, when some brilliant play from Brophy and Louise Johnson let to a pass out wide to Dayna Ferguson. Ferguson then picked out a pinpoint cross for Caoimhe Crichton, who nipped in front of the goalkeeper to nod home and double Dundalk’s advantage.
Bellurgan failed to pull one back, despite their best efforts as Dundalk Ladies made it five wins on the bounce as they continue their title charge.
