Champions Extend 100% Start With Cork Win

First Team News
// 24 Feb 2020

Dundalk made it three wins from three following a 3-0 win over Cork City at Oriel Park.

Michael Duffy opened the scoring and it was followed by goals in the second half from Patrick Hoban and Jordan Flores to seal the win.

Cork City had the first effort of the night when Gearoid Morrissey fired but it was wide of the mark and Michael Duffy followed it with a similar effort however Liam Bossin was equal to it.

Duffy though did get on the scoresheet in the 16th minute. His first time volley from a sequence of play involving Patrick Hoban, Daniel Kelly and Cork City’s Ronan Hurley found the net superbly past the reach of Bossin.

Hoban and Kelly had shots blocked from close range before Daniel Cleary’s header should have found the net however he was in acres of space and the ball went over the bar with just Bossin to beat.

There was little action other than that with the Lilywhites 1-0 up at the break.

Dylan McGlade had the first opportunity of the half for Cork when he cut in from the left side but shot well over the bar while at the other end Sean Hoare’s looping header almost caused issues for Bossin but he got his hands to it.

It would be 2-0 just past the hour mark when Paul McLaughlin pointed to the spot.

Daniel Kelly got in behind Ronan Hurley and he took him down which led to the penalty. Hoban stepped up and powered to the top left corner past Bossin.

It would be 3-0 a few moments later in what is an early contender for goal of the season.

A loose ball after Hoban tried to create an attack falls to Jordan Flores and his thunderbolt was too strong for Bossin and it almost ripped the net.

It was straight forward for the hosts after that as both sides didn’t create much in the aftermath of the third goal.

Both sides made changes which affected the flow of the match.

There was time for Duffy to get his head on Darragh Leahy’s clever cross after Duffy had laid it off to him however he couldn’t direct it goalwards.

That proved to be the final action of note as the match ended 3-0 and we move on to Shamrock Rovers on Friday at Tallaght Stadium.
