DKIT Down Syndrome Ireland Fundraiser
Dundalk FC Head Coach, Vinny Perth, made a trip to Dundalk Institute of Technology (DKIT) on Thursday afternoon with the SSE Airtricity League trophy, EA SPORTS Cup, Unite the Union trophy and President’s Cup.
Third-year Digital Marketing and Public Relations degree students at DKIT held a number of events to raise awareness and funds for Down Syndrome Ireland. The events include ’21-Second Tattoos’, ‘Scoring Baskets in 21 secs’, ‘Ring Toss,’ ‘Strike a Pose for DSI’, ’21-Minute Spin in a Super Car’ ,‘Challenge 21 Cyclethon’ and ’21 Hero Karaoke Songs.’
The students aim to raise €5,000 for new and existing parents of children with with Down syndrome. Fundraising is essential for the charity as less than 15% of income they receive is from government funding.
Down Syndrome Ireland is dedicated to being the primary source of information and support to people with Down syndrome, their families and the professional community, working towards an improved quality of life for our members along with respect and acceptance of people with Down syndrome as valued members of Irish society.
When speaking with dundalkfc.com. Greta Krumina said: “Fundraise21 is a couple of us doing different events across campus, there is a cyclethon, 21 second tattoos, 21 hoops and a number of other events going on and it is all for Down Syndrome Ireland.
Andrea Turbitt added: “We decided on the 21 to be a hashtag because people with Down syndrome have an extra copy of chromosome 21 so we thought Down Syndrome Ireland is all about having a bit of a laugh and some fun and that is exactly what we got. We are trying to get everyone involved to help with the fundraising.”
