// 17 Feb 2016

Dundalk made it five wins from five on Tuesday night with a 2-0 win over UCD at Oriel Park.

First half strikes from midfield duo Ronan Finn and Patrick McEleney was enough to seal the victory.

Shane Grimes had the first effort of the evening when he headed just over the bar at the back post when McEleney played an inch perfect cross from the right after a lovely interchange with Finn.

McEleney was outstanding on the right side throughout and it was his cross which was knocked down by Ciaran Kilduff who found Finn however his effort was blocked by Gary O’Neill on the six yard line.

Kilduff headed just over the bar when he found space from a McEleney corner while Robbie Benson also tried his luck but he found the corner flag.

On 16 minutes the Lilywhites got their lead goal when Niall Corbet missed a John Mountney cross and Paddy Barrett picked the ball up in the box and played a terrific reverse cross for Finn who finished expertly to the net.

Chris Shields had a chance to net a second however his 25 yard drive was over the bar from the edge of the box.

McEleney forced a brilliant one handed save from Corbet when his stinging shot was palmed away by the goalkeeper while Barrett ‘s long range effort never threatened the goal.

McEleney did get his goal though and what a goal it was when Finn played a brilliant pass to the Derryman and he beat four defenders before slotting home past Corbet.

The second half was a dominant display from the champions with Shields curling an effort just wide of the target and McEleney’s left footed curling effort whistled by the right hand post.

Mountney forced a good save from Corbet as he struck from 20 yards and substitute Michael O’Connor came closest to adding to the lead when his venomous shot was pushed away by the goalkeeper.

The game finished with O’Connor forcing a superb stop from Corbet when he jinked past 2 defenders before unleashing a terrific stop and with that referee Neil Doyle blew the full-time whistle.
