Dundalk Advance To Last Four
Dundalk made it into the last four of the EA SPORTS Cup once again with a 3-1 win over UCD on Monday night.
Brian Gartland and John Mountney gave the Lilywhites a 2-0 half-time lead before Yoyo Mahdy made it 2-1 with 10 minutes left. Georgie Kelly finished things off in the 90th minute to seal the victory.
Conor Davis had the first real chance of the evening for UCD as he turned well when he got inside but Aaron McCarey stopped well.
It would be 1-0 to Dundalk though in the 7th minute when John Mountney found Brian Gartland at the back post with a corner and he powered to the net.
It was almost 1-1 though a few moments later when Paul Doyle did superbly well to get a shot away however McCarey pulled off a wonderful save to keep Dundalk in front.
It was 2-0 though in the 18th minute when Cameron Dummigan played a perfectly weighted pass into the path of Mountney and he finished brilliantly past Sheridan.
Daniel Kelly then inadvertently almost made it 2-1 however he forced McCarey into another excellent stop while at the other end, Jordan Fores almost found the net however he fired just over the bar from the edge of the area.
Lido Lotefa almost made it 3-0 when his excellent volley came crashing off the post and to safety.
Mountney had two quickfire chances when he first fired from distance but it went just wide and Dane Massey then found him with a cross but his header came back off the crossbar and as eventually cleared.
It would be 2-0 at half-time and immediately after the re-start, it was almost 2-1 when Davis again had a chance but he couldn’t finish when the opportunity was presented to him.
Georgie Kelly then had two chances in quick succession himself when he cut inside and fired but his shot was right at Sheridan and when he was through on goal, he slipped as he shot and the chance went begging.
Gary O’Neill broke the Dundalk dominance with a tame effort that flew well over the crossbar.
Daniel Kelly then found himself through on goal however he couldn’t keep his effort down with just the goalkeeper to beat.
A lovely header from Kelly laid off to Jordan Flores on the left however he got under his shot and it went well over the bar.
Georgie Kelly had another opportunity to find the net but his effort was straight at Sheridan.
UCD would pull one back with just 10 minutes to go when Yoyo Mahdy poked home from 6 yards.
Mountney tried for his second with a good drive from the edge of the area however it was parried by Sheridan with Daniel Kelly offside for the follow up.
The game was wrapped up in the first minute of stoppage time however when Lotefa raided through on goal but his effort was stopped by Sheridan. It only went into the path of Georgie Kelly who got his goal and finished easily to the net to send the Lilywhites into the semi-finals.
