Dundalk Return To Winning Ways With Finn Harps Win
Dundalk returned to winning ways on Friday evening with a 4-0 win against Finn Harps.
Patrick Hoban netted a brace early in both halves along with goals from Michael Duffy and Greg Sloggett to give us all three points at Finn Park.
The Lilywhites got off to the perfect start. A sweeping move down the left saw Michael Duffy get in behind and his shot was deflected back to him, he laid it off to Patrick Hoban and the striker’s shot deflected into the top corner past the goalkeeper.
Finn Harps responded well with Karl O’Sullivan’s pull back being cut out by Sean Hoare while Mark Russell cut in off the left and his curled effort was clawed away brilliantly by Gary Rogers.
It was fairly scrappy for the most part until Dundalk made it 2-0 just before the break.
A wonderful ball in behind by Hoban released Duffy in behind and when one on one, he spotted Daniel Kelly in front of goal. However he struck the crossbar and the ball rebounded to Duffy who slotted to the net.
It was 2-0 at the break with the visitors in control.
Dundalk made it 3-0 5 minutes into the second half.
Dane Massey was channelling his inner Jordan Flores and caught the ball beautifully on the volley with McGinley equal to it however the rebound fell to Hoban who slid in for his second of the evening.
Finn Harps almost pulled one back when Barry McNamee’s corner caused problems and Sadiki got his head to it which forced a good save from Rogers and the follow up from Kogler was headed off the line expertly by Sean Gannon.
The Lilywhites were comfortable for the most part and that led to the introduction of our new Serbian forward Stefan Colovic for his competitive debut.
Hoban had a chance for his hat-trick however he struck a free-kick against the wall and at the other end, Kogler blazed over from 20 yards after a gift from Daniel Cleary.
It would be 4-0 with seven minutes left on the watch as Duffy’s cross on the right evaded Sam Todd and it fell to Greg Sloggett who fired to the net for his first Dundalk goal.
Colovic, who had some impressive involvements after his introduction, almost made the perfect start as he shot from the edge of the area however it rebounded off the post.
That was the last action of note as Dundalk saw out the game and took all three points from Ballybofey.
