Dundalk to host Sligo Rovers
The draw for the second round of the FAI Cup was made on Sunday afternoon and Dundalk were drawn at home to holders Sligo Rovers.
This will be the ninth tie between the sides however this will be the first meeting in the competition since February 1988 which Dundalk won after a replay.
The Lilywhites have faced Sligo Rovers twice already this season with Dundalk winning the first match 1-0 in Sligo in March while the Bit o’Red defeated Stephen Kenny’s men in the Setanta Cup final also on a 1-0 scoreline. The sides are also scheduled to meet in the league at Oriel on May 23rd.
Dundalk are the second most successful club in the history of the competition having won it 9 times with their first crown coming in 1942 but haven’t tasted Cup glory in 12 years when they defeated Bohemians 2-1 when incidentally, our current manager Stephen Kenny, was the losing manager that afternoon.
Kenny’s men have reached the semi-finals of the competition in both 2012 and 2013 however fell at that hurdle on both occasions.
The tie will be played at Oriel Park on the weekend ending 8th of June with time, date and venue being confirmed in due course.
