Euro Third Round opponents decided
The draw for the third round of this season’s UEFA Champions League and UEFA Europa League has taken place in Nyon today and the options for Dundalk’s next opponents in Europe have narrowed down to four.
As we await the visit of Azerbaijani champions Qarabag to Oriel Park this week for the UEFA Champions League second qualiyfing round, we now know which teams lie in wait in the following round.
UEFA CHAMPIONS LEAGUE
If Dundalk were to beat Qarabag over two legs, we will face either Cypriot champions APOEL FC or FK Sutjeska Niksic, the champions of Montenegro in the third qualiyfing round.
The Lilywhites would be away from home in the first leg on either 6-7 August (date TBC) and the home leg would take place on Tuesday 13 August, due to the UEFA Super Cup between Liverpool and Chelsea taking place the following day. Dates and kick-off times TBC.
UEFA EUROPA LEAGUE
If the Lilywhites were to lose to Qarabag, we drop into the third qualifying round of the UEFA Europa League, where we would face either Slovakian champions ŠK Slovan Bratislava or KF Feronikeli, the champions of Kosovo.
Vinny Perth’s men would face an away trip for the first leg on Thursday 8 August, with the return at home scheduled for the Thursday 15 August.
However, because Dundalk will be using Tallaght Stadium as our home ground beyond the second qualifying rounds and Shamrock Rovers are still in the UEFA Europa League themselves, our fixture dates are subject to change to avoid potential clashes.
Please keep your eye on dundalkfc.com and our social media channels for final dates and kick-off times, once these have been confirmed by UEFA.
