We have been drawn at home to Longford Town in the first round of the 2022 Extra.ie FAI Cup.

The tie is scheduled to take place on the weekend of July 31st, with a date and kick-off time to be confirmed in due course.

The Midlanders, who are currently fourth in Division One under the stewardship of Gary Cronin, were relegated from the top flight last season but still managed to take five points off Dundalk in the four league meetings between the teams.

This will be just the third time the clubs have met in the competition. The first occasion was just over 50 years ago, in February 1972, when goals from Gerry Rogers, Paddy Turner and Sean Kelly secured Dundalk a first-round 3-0 win in front of 1,800 people at Longford Park.

The most recent cup meeting between the sides was back in 2015 – when Dundalk went on to lift the trophy – with Paddy Barrett and Ronan Finn both on target in a 2-0 semi-final victory at Oriel Park.

It was also announced that as part of the No Referee, No Game campaign, all sides competing in the first round of the Extra.ie FAI Men’s Cup and the Evoke.ie FAI Women’s Cup will perform a guard of honour for their match officials ahead of kick-off.
