Robbie Benson will hold a special place in all Dundalk supporters hearts.
The midfielder departs the club this week after four years at the club and leaves having given us some wonderful memories over the years.
As well as being a crucial member of the side and won three league titles, two EA SPORTS Cups and one FAI Cup during his time, he was a contributor to some wonderful European memories.
In the UEFA Champions League qualifiers in 2016, Benson first netted the clinching goal against BATE Borisov in the third qualifying round on a special night at Tallaght Stadium.
His next trick was to score one of the most genuinely stunning goals that anyone could ever see as he caught the most sweetest volley with his right foot against Legia Warsaw at The Polish Army Stadium to give us a chance of group stage qualification.
His third European goal was in the UEFA Europa League Group Stages against Zenit St. Petersburg to give us a 1-0 lead in Tallaght on the night.
Benson did suffer some serious injuries this season, a broken leg to start the campaign, but he returned after the midseason break and made a crucial contribution to our league win and EA SPORTS Cup final triumph over Derry City.
Benson joined us ahead of the 2016 season after spells at UCD and his native Athlone Town. After 141 appearances and 28 goals, he now moves to St. Patrick’s Athletic.
Everyone at Dundalk Football Club would like to thank Robbie for his professionalism, commitment and of course the memories during his time at the club and wish him all the very best in the future.
