PLAYER PROFILE

Now in his second spell at the club, Andy progressed through the youth ranks at Crumlin United before making his League of Ireland debut with UCD as a 17-year-old in 2009.

He played a major player in The Students’ First Division triumph and made the transition from first to Premier Division brilliantly, making 25 appearances as UCD finished seventh in 2010.

A move to Shelbourne followed and he enjoyed another good campaign in 2011 as the Tolka Park club sealed automatic promotion back to the Premier Division.  He was also a part of the Shels side that took Sligo Rovers to penalties in the 2011 FAI Cup final at the Aviva Stadium and went on to play 22 times for the Drumcondra club in the top flight in 2012 before signing for Dundalk ahead of the 2013 campaign.

Boyle made his league debut in a 0-0 draw at home to Shamrock Rovers and became a pivotal player in Stephen Kenny’s team, missing just one league game throughout the 2013 season as the club finished second.  His performances earned him a place in the 2013 PFAI Premier Division Team of the Year and also secured him the Dundalk FC Player’s Player of the Year award.

With Stephen O’Donnell injured, Boyle spent the majority of the 2014 season as captain and was a huge influence on the squad which claimed a league and League Cup double. Twelve months later, he picked up more silverware, helping the Lilywhites to a league and FAI Cup double.

His imperious displays in Dundalk’s UEFA Europa League run in 2016 earned him a move to Preston North End and in March 2017, Boyle came off the bench in a friendly against Iceland to win his first international cap for the Republic of Ireland.

After loan stints at Doncaster, Dundee and Ross County, Boyle returned to Dundalk after his release from Preston in the summer of 2019 and since then, he has added another league, FAI Cup and EA Sports Cup winners medal to his collection as well as helping the club to another appearance in the UEFA Europa League group stages.
