A livewire, on and off the pitch, ‘Dicky’ has won a clean sweep of domestic honours at Oriel Park after making the switch from Bohemians in December 2018.

Born in May 1996, the Ringsend native started out as a teenager with local club Cambridge Boys before moving on to the Leinster Senior League with Ringsend Rovers and St Pat’s CY.

His form with CY opened the door for a shot at the League of Ireland in 2018 and after a good spell with Bray Wanderers, he moved to Bohemians midway through the season.

He scored five goals in just nine starts for Keith Long’s side and after training with Bolton Wanderers at the end of the season, it looked like he was set for a move across the Irish Sea.

Kelly, however, opted to stay in Ireland and after rejecting approaches from Cork City, Waterford and Shamrock Rovers, he moved to Oriel Park.

His debut season with the Lilywhites proved to be a memorable one as he hit 14 goals in all competitions, helping Dundalk to the SSE Airtricity League title, the League Cup, the President’s Cup and the Unite The Union Champions Cup.

A niggling knee injury disrupted his 2020 campaign but he still played an important role, scoring the fourth and final goal in the UEFA Europa League playoff win over KI Klaksvik as well as providing the assist for David McMillan’s third goal in the FAI Cup final win over Shamrock Rovers.
