Dundalk FC coach and opposition analyst Ruaidhri Higgins has expressed his delight at staying at the Club. Speaking to dundalkfc.com the former player has decided to remain at Oriel Park and is looking forward to it.

“I am delighted to be extending my stay at the club. I have gained invaluable experience and I am looking forward to gaining some more.

“I am part of a very successful Club at the minute and long may that continue. ”

The Club go into the new season as double champions and are Ireland’s representative in the UEFA Champions League and that is something Higgins is particularly excited about but he isn’t losing sight of the importance of the league.

“Its great to be involved in something special. Going into the Champions League next year will be brilliant. It’s very exciting. I am looking forward to that as well as the bread and butter of the league and Cup.

“I can’t wait for the Champions League, there’s something very special about the Champions League. If you can’t get excited for that then you may forget about it. ”

The Lilywhites have almost all players under contract for the new campaign which is something that the 34 year-old feels gives us a ‘good foundation’ going forward and praised the spirit between the players and staff at the Club as a key to success.

“We are in a brilliant position this year compared to say last year when there was a lot of ins and outs at the Club.  We have a lot of players under contract for next year which is brilliant.

“It shows the progress that the Club is making and it gives a great foundation for the club to build on. Securing almost everyone nice and early is fantastic for everyone.

“It gives stability for all involved and the spirit within the group this season was exceptional. The spirit between the staff and the players has been brilliant and it looks like we are keeping the majority of that together.

“Hopefully that can continue and that team spirit can carry us forward next season. “
