Hoban Penalty Seals Big Win

First Team News
// 15 Apr 2019

Dundalk were dramatic 1-0 winners at Oriel Park on Monday night over Bohemians.

Patrick Hoban stepped up in the 95th minute to net a penalty which gave the Lilywhites their first victory in three league matches.

Bohemians had the first chance of the night when Danny Mandriou rose highest to head Keith Buckley’s cross but he couldn’t get it near the target.

Dundalk found their feet and it was Dean Jarvis who found himself furthest forward when he rambled through the defence but his shot as he was falling was blocked down by Rob Cornwall.

Patrick Hoban had his first chance of the night when he got his head on Jordan Flores free-kick but he knocked it just over the bar.

Jarvis then headed over from Michael Duffy’s corner before at the other end, somehow, Kevin Devaney hit the side netting from Ali Reghba’s outstanding cross.

Mandriou found space outside the box soon after that but he fired well over the bar.

There was little change until the half-time break with both sides scoreless.

Bohemians had the better of it in the opening stages of the half as Mandriou found Ryan Swan through on goal but his shot was expertly pushed away by Gary Rogers.

Rob Cornwall flashed a header wide with the resulting corner.

Mandriou then had a free-kick which was just about grabbed by Rogers before Ali Reghba’s outstanding cross evaded everyone and was somehow headed off the line by Sean Gannon.

It looked like it wasn’t going to be our night however Sean Gannon made a darting run into the box in the final minute and was upended in the box.

Up stepped captain Hoban and he showed nerves of steel to fire to the net and seal the victory with the last kick of the game!
