Cherry Orchard U16 2-2 Dundalk FC U16

Metropolitan Girls League

Jennifer Freeman’s equaliser secured Dundalk’s U16 girls team a richly deserved share of the spoils in a crazy Metropolitan Girls League clash with Cherry Orchard in Dublin last Sunday.

The game got off to a tight start but it was the Lilywhites who drew first blood when Molly Williams fired a superb strike into the top corner after just 16 minutes.

Cherry Orchard almost responded with a goal of their own a minute later but Caoimhe Magee produced an excellent save but the home side continued to put pressure on and they eventually found an equaliser after an excellent passing move just after the half-hour mark.

The hosts got off to a better start in the second half and they made it count, taking the lead six minutes into the second period.

Dundalk didn’t let their heads drop and continued to push forward in search of an equaliser and, incredibly, Bernard Freeman’s side had four goals chalked off for offside, as well as having a penalty saved!

The equaliser finally arrived late on when Jennifer Freeman’s corner was headed away, and her second attempt at a cross looped over everyone and into the net.

The Lilywhites piled the pressure on in the final few minutes but were forced to settle for a draw in the end, in what was a very competitive game.
