Kelly Joins From UCD
Dundalk FC are pleased to announce that Georgie Kelly has joined the Club from UCD.
The striker comes to Oriel Park as top scorer in the first division with The Students with a tally of 14 goals so far in 2018. During his two and a half years at Belfield he found the net on 37 occasions in 67 appearances, including a first division best of 17 last season.
The Donegal native joined UCD in November of 2015 from Derry City making three appearances for the senior side after coming through the youth setup at the Brandywell.
He moved to Dublin for his studies and has become a Lilywhite on a two and a half year contract.
Speaking to dundalkfc.com after the conclusion of the deal, Kelly couldn’t hide his happiness at coming to Oriel Park.
“I am very happy to have signed for Dundalk. This will be my first real go at Premier Division football. I have spent most of the time in the first division with UCD so this will be a new experience for me.
“It is one I am looking forward to though. I am here to do the best that I can. Pat Hoban has been flying and there’s a lot of goals in the team already. I want to bring my own form to that and score as many as I can.
“I am here to work hard and I can’t wait to get involved for Dundalk. “
The 21 year-old feels that there is ‘a lot to look forward to’ at the Club and is excited about the challenges that lie ahead.
“There’s a lot to look forward to here. There was a lot of reasons for me wanting to come here and it’s the chance to win trophies and we have Europe around the corner.
“I can’t wait for that. It is exciting and being around a winning team is where I want to be. “
The front man can’t wait to get going and is intent on winning trophies under Stephen Kenny.
“It was too good an opportunity to turn down for me. I have come here to try and win trophies. That has to be the ambition coming to the likes of Dundalk.
“That is the goal. There’s a culture here of winning, especially over the last couple of years. Winning leagues, winning Cups and progressing in Europe. I want to be a part of that and I can’t wait to get started. “
Chief Executive Mal Brannigan added “Georgie’s goalscoring record this season alone indicates that he is going to have a very bright future in the game and more importantly at Dundalk FC. He is already known to a few of the players and staff here and in securing Georgie’s signature, the Club has sought to strengthen the team for now and the next few seasons.”
