Kelly Pleased With Current Form
Dundalk striker Georgie Kelly was delighted with the team’s win against Sligo Rovers last Friday. Speaking to dundalkfc.com Kelly felt the early goal was important to the victory.
“I thought the 4-0 win against Sligo was a good win. We started the game really well with a great header from John (Mountney) and that set us on our way.
“The early goal meant that they had to come out and play against us and it left gaps in behind and we capitalised then. All-in-all it was a good performance and we were happy to come away with all three points.”
The Donegal native is pleased with how the Lilywhites have clawed the gap back on Shamrock Rovers but is intent on pushing on at the top of the table.
“We had a bit of a slow start with dropping points to both Finn Harps and Sligo but since then we have picked it up and went on a great run going undefeated 12 games on the bounce.
“To reduce the deficit and overtake Shamrock Rovers at the top of the table was massive for the general morale of the squad.
“The first half of the season has been decent but I think we can lift it to the next gear. I’m pretty sure everyone would say we have another gear in us so hopefully we can kick on and up it now in time for Europe.
“Personally, the first half of the season started slow enough for me but recently I’ve chipped in with a few goals and coming off the bench a bit earlier so it’s going fine.”
The champions travel to Ballybofey to take on Finn Harps and the UCD graduate knows it won’t be easy but is looking to take all three points on Saturday evening.
“Going up to Finn Park is always very tricky and tough. Harps are always tough so we expect nothing less again this time.
“We were up there earlier in the season and condition were tough and they ground out a result so hopefully on Saturday we can dig deep and take the three points – that’s the main goal.
“The performance mightn’t be too pretty and it’s going to be tough battle but at the end of the day once we get the three points then we’ll be delighted.”
