Lilywhites Fall To Molde Defeat

Match Report
// 22 Oct 2020

Sean Murray gave us a half-time lead however second half goals from Stian  Gregersen and Ohi Omoijuanfo gave Molde victory.

It was a cagey opening from both sides with Molde having the better of the possession.

Patrick Hoban had the ball in the net but it was ruled out for a foul on the goalkeeper after a wonderful cross from Michael Duffy.

The visitors responded with a spell of sustained pressure and forced a number of corners but the closest they came was when Pedersen let fly from distance however it flashed just wide of Gary Rogers right hand post.

The Lilywhites did take the lead ten minutes before the break when a wonderfully crafted move saw the ball finish with John Mountney. His cross on the run was onto the head of the arriving Sean Murray and he glanced the ball to the net past the dive of the despairing Andreas Linde.

Dundalk controlled things until the break with Pedersen firing goalwards but wide once more with the hosts going in 1-0 up at the break.

Molde did lift things at the start and retained the ball impressively with Gregersen toe poking the ball over the bar after Hussain’s shot appeared to be going wide.

They did get their equaliser just after the hour mark when Pedersen’s cross was to Hussain and his volley was deflected to the net from just inside the area.

The game was scrappy after that but Molde took the lead with just under 20 minutes remaining when Knudtzon, only on the pitch three minutes, was brought down by Sean Gannon in the box leaving the referee no option but to point to the spot.

Ohi Omoijuanfo stepped up and struck just past Rogers.

Molde sat off for the most part and a late flurry including a shot from Dummigan was deflected wide however nothing threatened Linde.

That proved to be the final action of note and we move on to Waterford in domestic matters on Sunday.
