Lilywhites Held By Bohs
Dundalk were held to a 0-0 draw by Bohemians at Oriel Park on Friday evening.
It was a lively opening to the game with Patrick Hoban and Patrick McEleney linking up well however the latter was offside when he was through on goal.
Andre Wright wasn’t offside though and the ball fell to him just inside the area and he somehow failed to hit the target when free.
The match became a little scrappy from there on with Keith Ward firing two shots over the bar from distance for Bohs and Cameron Dummigan opened space for himself from 30 yards but he hit it straight at Talbot.
Michael Duffy had a free-kick go straight at the wall after he won it himself and Gannon cleared one from just under his own crossbar after a scramble of sorts.
The best move of the match saw Gannon play some good quick passing with Hoban and that set the full back free to the byline and he got his pull back back to McEleney however his shot was blocked from close range.
Five minutes before the break, Bohs almost got the lead when first Andy Lyons forced a save from Gary Rogers at an acute angle. From that corner, Anto Breslin’s ball was to Andre Wright but his looping header was just over the bar.
The second half was a little scrappy to begin with but Dundalk had the best chance to take the lead.
Some clever play from McEleney saw him release Duffy on the left. His pass to Hoban inside saw the striker turn beautifully and lay it back to Duffy who was through on goal but he pulled his shot wide with just Talbot to beat.
The two linked up again as Duffy’s free-kick found the number 9 but he headed wide.
Omochere’s cross was nodded back across goal by Wright to find Ward who ghosted in however his touch was somehow cleared off the line by Rogers despite Bohs appeals for a goal.
Gannnon then thread a cross into the box which looked prime for Hoban to finish only for Barker to clear at the vital moment.
Grant warmed the hands of Rogers with a shot from distance minutes after he had a moment of concern after going down under a challenge before Dummigan again tried his luck from range but this time his effort was inches wide of the post.
Dummigan found space to cross next and he sent it to the back post where it found Gannon but he snatched at the shot and the ball went wide.
That proved to be the final action of note as the match finished scoreless and we move on to Derry City on Monday evening.
