Lilywhites Take Win Against Longford
Dundalk won their second game in two night as they defeated Longford Town 2-1 at Oriel Park.
Sam Verdon gave Longford the lead however goals in either half from Patrick Hoban and Michael Duffy gave us the win.
Dundalk fell behind in the fourth minute when Sam Verdon turned quickly and volleyed to the bottom corner from the edge of the area giving Gary Rogers no chance in goal.
The home side responded well with Sean Gannon having a snapshot go just wide and Patrick Hoban coming inches away from turning home a tantalising Michael Duffy cross.
Hoban did manage to get his head on the next cross into the box, this time from Stefan Colovic, but he couldn’t guide it on target.
It was 1-1 with 10 minutes to go before the break.
A clever ball from Jordan Flores to Michael Duffy saw the winger hook it back towards the centre of the area. There was Hoban waiting and he got enough on it to send it past Steacy.
Duffy was then through on goal himself however he shot wide with just the goalkeeper to beat.
Colovic’s cross from the right was superb and he found Duffy waiting at the back post however his header was straight at Steacy.
Dundalk were stronger after the break and upped the tempo but it was James English of Longford who had the first chance of the half but his effort from the edge of the area was straight at Rogers.
Hoban had a chance to convert Duffy’s cross but he scuffed it on the six yard area while Daniel Kelly had a stinging shot saved by Steacy.
Patrick McEleney played a wonderful flick into the path of Duffy. He shot and beat Steacy but it struck the post and the ball was cleared.
The Lilywhites did go in front with just over 10 minutes remaining when Duffy got in behind and finished well to the net past the goalkeeper.
There was no action of note after that and the Lilywhites claim the win.
