LSC | St Pats 1- 0 Dundalk FC
A young Dundalk FC side were defeated 1-0 by St Patrick’s Athletic in the Leinster Senior Cup Semi-Final in Richmond Park on Monday night.
Pablo Cavalcante’s shot wide and Patrick McEleney forced Barry Murphy into a save in the early stages of the match while Gabriel Sava had to produce smart saves to deny Dean Clarke and James Doona. Just before the break Georgie Kelly looked to have broken the deadlock but the assistant referee raised his flag to disallow the goal for offside.
Dylan Hand, making his first senior appearance for Dundalk after returning to the club following his spell at Chesterfield, headed over from a McEleney free-kick while Cavalcante set up John Mountney but Murphy again was able to make a good save. St Pats almost took the lead when substitute Achille Campion set up Clarke but Sava was able to save his low shot. The other debutant, substitute Nedas Maciulattitis, linked up presented McEleney with a chance but his shot went narrowly wide. Maciulattitis was again involved in a move that ended with Mountney setting up McEleney but he couldn’t find the target with Murphy quick off his line to narrow the angle.
In the closing stages, St Pats had a number of chances to seal the win. First, Sava saved well from Jamie Lennon while Doona and Campion had free-kicks went narrowly wide.
The match entered extra-time and St Pats were having the majority of the play. The breakthrough arrived from Kevin Toner who scored direct from a free-kick low past Sava into this left-hand post. Dundalk were unable to get back into the match and so it will be St Pats v Shelbourne in the 2018 LFA Leinster Senior Cup Final.
