Massey Agrees New Deal

First Team News
// 20 Dec 2016

Dundalk FC are delighted to announce that defender Dane Massey has agreed a new contract with the club. Dane joined Dundalk in December 2012 from Bray Wanderers and has now played over 160 matches winning three SSE Airtricity League titles, an EA Sports Cup, and FAI Cup plus has been part of the club’s incredible European success.

Speaking to dundalkfc.com after signing his new deal Massey couldn’t hide his delight at signing the new deal stating ‘there’s nowhere else he wants to be’

“I am absolutely delighted to get the deal signed. There’s nowhere else I want to be. No matter who came in for me I wasn’t going to sign for them. I love being here. It’s a great club, great people around and great staff. It’s the best fan base in the country.

“My head wasn’t going to be turned by anyone because I love playing my football in Dundalk.”

Massey has already set his sights on four-in-a-row and while he admits it will be a huge task the full back wants to make 2017 even better than 2017.

“Four-in-a-row is going to be a huge task but we are looking forward to it. Shamrock Rovers are the last team to have done it but we are ready for the challenge. It’s so hard to win one and we can win four now so we want to do that.

“We said at the end of 2015 that we wanted to better it in 2016 and we had just won the double! This year we won the league and got to the Europa League Group Stages but we want to progress even further and see how far we can go in all competitions.

As the former Ireland Futsal international enters his fifth season at the club he is intent on striving towards greatness once again and believes that the side will be ‘ready to go again’ despite the loss of some players for the third season in succession.

“This will be my fifth season at Dundalk and I am enjoying having Stephen Kenny as manager as well as Vinny Perth with him and all the staff. I am really looking forward to next season. We want to improve and push ourselves again. We always have something to strive towards.

“We have lost players every year but we have managed to come back stronger each time. Stephen will sign well for the new season and have us ready to go again.”
