We would like to say a special word of thanks to our match sponsors for the League of Ireland game with Derry City at Oriel Park, Cooley Distillery.

Cooley Distillery is an Irish whiskey distillery on the Cooley Peninsula in Co Louth. It was founded in 1987 after Irish entrepreneur John Teeling purchased the site from the state-owned Cooley Alcohol Factory, which was originally built in 1939.

At that time, it was the first new Irish whiskey distillery set up in over 100 years. Cooley was subsequently amalgamated with Kilbeggan Distillery, the world’s oldest licensed distillery dating back to 1757.

Over the last 35 years, Cooley has developed an international reputation for the quality of its whiskeys and was previously honoured as World Distiller of the Year and European Distiller of the Year by the International Wine & Spirits Competition in London.

In January 2012, Cooley Distillery was acquired by the publicly owned Beam Inc, best known for Jim Beam Bourbon. Beam Inc was subsequently acquired by Suntory Holdings of Japan in 2014, leading to the creation of a privately owned subsidiary company Beam Suntory.

In 2022, Cooley Distillery exported over 65% of its sales to over 40 international markets. Cooley’s award-winning brands, Kilbeggan Blend, Connemara Peated Malt and Tyrconnell Single Malt have played a significant role in the revival of Irish Whiskey worldwide with Germany being Cooley’s biggest market.

These brands, along with a number of other planned innovations, will be the core driver of Cooley Distillery’s growth in future years.
