McEleney Expecting Tough Riga Test
Dundalk midfielder Patrick McEleney told dundalkfc.com that he is expecting a tough encounter against Riga FC in the UEFA Champions League first qualifying round. McEleney believed that every draw would be tough but will get to work on the Latvian champions immediately.
“It’s going to be a difficult game. Any team in the Champions League is going to be difficult so we knew that going into it.
“We don’t know a lot about Riga but we will learn and do our homework on them over the next few days.”
McEleney stressed the importance though of not losing sight of our domestic exploits in the coming weeks.
“The tie is a few weeks away so we have time but we have work to do in between now and then and we have our own matches to take care of.
“We had a bit of a break but we are back in now and ready to go in the second half of the season.”
The Derry native did concede though that he is looking forward to the tie.
“This club focuses on Europe and it is always great to be a part of. They are special occasions for us as players and the ones that you want to be involved in.
“We will deal with it when it comes around in a few weeks but it’s something we are all looking forward to.”
