Post-Match: Kierans “Very Pleased” with Young Guns
With Ian Foster unavailable for comment afterwards, assistant manager Darius Kierans gave his reaction to dundalkfc.com following Monday’s League Cup loss in Monaghan, stating that it was “a very pleasing performance from all the younger players”.
Foster handed first-team debuts to Cian Byrne and Chris Kerr, and a full debut to Philip Duffy, and Kierans felt that they “held their own”, though he admitted that the latter pair “tired”, with Daniel Kearns and Ross Gaynor introduced on the hour mark.
Asked how disappointing it is to be out of the League Cup, the 31-year-old said: “It’s disappointing because it’s always a good place to breathe young players and to give young players a chance, and that’s what we used it for today. We got what we wanted out of it from that perspective.”
