Dundalk are through to the EA Sports Cup final for the third time in six years after a stunning 6-1 semi-final victory over Bohemians at Oriel Park.

An incredible Patrick Hoban hat-trick in the opening quarter of an hour set the Lilywhites on their way, before Patrick McEleney and Dan Kelly added goals either side of a fourth for Hoban to cap off a great night for the Lilywhites, who will face Derry City in the final on Saturday 14 September.

Dundalk got off to the perfect start when a superb through ball from Michael Duffy found Patrick Hoban and his wonderful left-footed drive found the bottom corner past the arm of Mick Kelly.

Ryan Swan almost equalised immediately, but he was denied brilliantly by Andy Boyle as he was about to pull the trigger.

It was 2-0 just before the 10 minute mark when Duffy again provided for Hoban – this time from a corner and he made no mistake with the free header to the net.

Hoban completed a sensational hat-trick in the 14th minute when he met Daniel Cleary’s outstanding cross, giving Mick Kelly no chance.

The action quietened for the next 15 minutes but it would be 4-0 just before half-time, when Patrick McEleney danced past the entire Bohs defence before finishing expertly past the goalkeeper.

Hoban would incredibly get his fourth straight after the break when John Mountney’s cross found Jamie McGrath. His shot was well saved by Kelly, however it fell to the number nine and he finished to the net.

Ross Tierney would pull one back for Bohemians just after the hour mark.

Hoban almost found the net again but his shot was well palmed away by Kelly in the Bohs goal, however the five goal lead was restored as the match entered the closing stages.

McGrath did extremely well to break through and he slotted it through to substitute Daniel Kelly who finished brilliantly to make it six.
