Tagbajumi: I’m Ready
Dundalk FC progressed to the quarter-final of the EA SPORTS Cup on Monday night after defeating St. Patrick’s Athletic 8-7 in a penalty shootout at Richmond Park.
Marco Tagbajumi, Ronan Murray were on target for the visitors in 90 minutes with Mick Leahy scoring an OG and Dane Massey scoring in extra-time to leave it 4-4 after 120 minutes.
Tagbajumi also scored the decisive penalty to put the cup holders into the last eight of the competition.
Talking to dundalkfc.com after the game, Tagbajumi said: “It was a good fun game against St. Pats. It was a little bit hectic at times but it was generally a good completion of the game.
“We had a lot of players coming back from injury and I hadn’t played a full 90 minutes myself since November – so it was good to finally start a game and really get out there.
“St. Pats are a good team and hard to beat. They had a desire in the second half to come back and even in extra-time they caused us problems and gave us a real good game.
“I feel great after playing. My body doesn’t feel as good as yesterday but mentally and physically I feel very good.
“The pace is quite different and the playing style is quite different to but it’s something that I will have to get used to and I feel that I am ready.
“I was really happy to get my first goal. I was a little bit nervous to go and take the penalty after playing for 120 minutes I was a little bit tired and I am just happy that we got through.
“We have Bray next but I expect that we get the job done, get the three points and come home happy.
