Team news vs Bohs

First Team News
// 15 Oct 2020

We are back home on Friday night as we welcome Bohemians to Oriel Park in the next round of fixtures in the SSE Airtricity League.

During the week we got back to winning ways with a 2-0 victory over Cork City at Turners Cross. Patrick Hoban netted a late brace to seal all three points.

The win lifted us to third position in the table and we have five matches remaining as we look to finish in the top three for the eighth consecutive season.

This will be our second clash of the season with Bohemians after our meeting in August at Dalymount however it won’t be the last as we have been drawn to meet in the quarter-finals of the extra.ie FAI Cup in mid-November.

This is in the middle of a hectic end of season for the Lilywhites with four matches across the next 9 days – three in the league and one in the UEFA Europa League Group Stage.

Filippo Giovagnoli will be looking to make it back-to-back wins in the league for the first time as manager and recording his second victory at home.

How did we get on last time out?

We were 2-0 winners over Cork City on Tuesday evening. A second half brace from Patrick Hoban was enough to give us all three points at Turners Cross.

And at Oriel?

It was against Finn Harps 11 days ago and we were held to a 0-0 draw by the Ballybofey men.

Current Standings

Shamrock Rovers lead the way ahead of opponents Bohemians. We are now up to third after our victory on Tuesday with Waterford, St. Patrick’s Athletic and Sligo Rovers coming next. Derry City and Shelbourne follow. Finn Harps and Cork City continue to occupy the bottom two places.

We  are embarking on a busy schedule…

Yes we are, after Tuesday’s win we play Bohs tomorrow evening ahead of a trip to Derry City on Monday. Our UEFA Europa League Group B opener against Molde FK of Norway follows next Thursday before a return to domestic action away to Waterford on the Sunday.

We have already met Bohs this season…

We have, at Dalymount one week after the re-start back in August and we were defeated 2-1. Daniel Grant and Keith Buckley put Bohemians 2-0 up after just 15 minutes and Michael Duffy pulled one back however it wasn’t enough to salvage anything.

We met Bohemians a few times last season…

We did. We met on 5 occasions in 2019. Patrick Hoban scored a late penalty in a 1-0 win back in April at Oriel. This was followed by a 2-0 win at Dalymount Park with Georgie Kelly and Sean Hoare finding the net. There was another thriller at Oriel in May though with Danny Grant giving Bohs an early lead however second half goals from Georgie and Hoban again gave us all three points. We then met in a change of competition on our way to the EA SPORTS Cup triumph. It was in the semi-final at Oriel Park with Hoban scoring an incredible four which were added to by Danile Kelly and Patrick McEleney. Bohemians were the winners in the final meeting in October when they took a 2-1 victory at Dalymount. Luke Wade-Slater and Andre Wright secured the win, with Duffy pulling one back late on.

The officials

Damien MacGraith will be the man in charge for this one with Robert Clarke and Shane O’Brien assisting him. Ben Connolly will be fourth official.

Team news

Dane Massey continues his recovery from hip surgery and remains sidelined however Darragh Leahy has returned from international duty with the Ireland U21’s and is available for selection. Massey aside, Filippo Giovagnoli has a full squad to choose from.
