Team news vs Cork
After a weekend off, we resume our league programme with a trip to Turners Cross to face Cork City on Tuesday evening.
Due to a member of the St. Patrick’s Athletic squad testing positive for COVID-19, it meant that we had a weekend free of a match.
That meant that the current season needed to be extended and instead of the campaign ending on November 1st it will now go back to the following week of November 8th.
The current period doesn’t get any easier and we have little time to breathe with five matches in the next 12 days to look forward to with four domestic matches and our UEFA Europa League opener.
We have three matches in hand as we look to finish in the European places for the eighth consecutive season and have Cork City, Bohemians and Derry City all over the next seven days.
This is the second and final meeting with Cork City this year after meeting in Oriel back in February and that resulted in a 3-0 win for us.
How can I follow it?
The match kicks off at the time of 7.45 p.m. on Tuesday evening at Turner’s Cross and we will be carrying updates on official social media streams – @DundalkFC on Twitter, Dundalk FC on Facebook and dundalkfc_ on Instagram also. The post-match reaction will be available on all streams.
The match is being broadcast on WATCHLOI, the SSE Airtricity League’s new streaming platform which will deliver top-flight football to supporters in Ireland and around the world. Sign up at watchloi.ie.
How did we get on last week?
We had no match last Friday due to the postponement of the St. Patrick’s Athletic clash however weekend we were held to a 0-0 draw by Finn Harps at Oriel Park.
Shamrock Rovers are clear at the top from Bohemians. Waterford and St. Patrick’s Athletic come next with Sligo Rovers and ourselves next although we do have three matches in hand on those around us. Derry City and Shelbourne are after us with Finn Harps and opponents Cork City occupying the bottom two places.
We have a busy week…
We do. This kicks off a manic period after we travel to Cork City tomorrow, we take on Bohemians at Oriel Park on Friday before another trip this time to Derry City on Monday. This extends to facing Molde in the UEFA Europa League Group Stage opener and a trip to Waterford the following Sunday.
We have already met Cork this season…
Yes just the once back in February at Oriel with goals from Michael Duffy, Patrick Hoban and Jordan Flores giving us a 3-0 win.
2019 v Cork City
First in the President’s Cup. The match took place at Turner’s Cross as the season curtain raiser and we took the trophy home with a 2-1 win. Dane Massey and Hoban netted in the first half to give us a 2-0 lead before Kevin O’Connor scored in the second half but we saw the game out. Then in March, Michael Duffy’s header was the difference between the sides as we were 1-0 winners at Oriel. Our most recent meeting happened in May at Turners Cross with Dean Jarvis and John Mountney scoring early in both halves to secure a 2-0 win for us. Our fourth recent meeting took place in early September in a re-arranged match and a late Georgie Kelly header was the difference as we were 1-0 winners. Finally back in October, Daire O’Connor’s strike on the stroke of half-time gave the Leesiders the win.
Neil Doyle will be the man in charge with Dermot Broughton and Trevor Cotter assisting him. Ray Matthews will be the fourth official.
Dane Massey is ruled out with a hip injury and Darragh Leahy is on international duty with the Ireland U-21’s in Italy however they will the only absentees as Sean Gannon is fit again after an ankle injury.
