The Great Fyffes Dundalk FC Bake Off
With football still sidelined due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, the Dundalk squad kept their competitive spirit alive by taking part in ‘The Great Fyffes Dundalk FC Bake Off’ over the weekend.
Some of the players displayed their inner Mary Berry while, put simply, some of them showed that they are a lot better with a ball at their feet than a kitchen utility in their hand!
Commenting on the event, Lilywhites manager Vinny Perth said that a number of his players were devastated not to get a baking apron in the starting line-up!
“There’s no doubt we’ve had one of the most divisive weeks I’ve ever seen at the club!” said Perth, “and I’ve really struggled to manage the players!
“Many of them were left upset and disappointed because we had to leave them out of the top eight before we narrowed it down to a top three and named the eventual winner.”
Daniel Cleary’s sensational Kinder Bueno-inspired cake was one of those that made the cut to finish in the top three. He was joined by Patrick Hoban, who scoured cookbooks to deliver a lush-looking Oreo cake.
“It’s an Oreo lovers dream,” said Hoban. “Two layers of chocolate cake, surrounded with an Oreo buttercream, topped with chocolate ganache and finally decorated with Oreos!”
Midfielder Greg Sloggett also continued his good start to life in Dundalk by whipping up a classy chocolate cake in the surroundings of his Belfry kitchen.
“Culinary class captivated in chocolate cake,” was the UCD computer science graduate’s description of his masterpiece! “Blissfully braced by Belgian Biscuits and delicately designed to be deliciously devoured.”
The winner will be announced on our social media channels on Wednesday!
