U17s | Bohemian 4-0 Dundalk
Dundalk FC U-17s suffered a 4-0 defeat at the hands of Bohemian FC on the opening day of the SSE Airtricity League season at St. Aidan’s CBS on Saturday afternoon.
Both sides failed to score in what was an even first half, with the home side creating the slightly better of the chances in horrendous conditions. The sides went in 0-0 at the half-time break.
Bohemian broke the deadlock on the 56 minute when a long range effort caught out Jordan Byrne to give the home side the lead. The young Lilywhites dominated after the goal and were unlucky to to draw level through Ebuka Kwelele.
The Dundalk midfield were caught in possession on the 70 minute and Bohs took another shot only for the ‘keeper to spill the ball and the home side to score with a tap in.
The visitors continued to play good football and gave away a free kick on the 89 minute. The resulting free was delivered into the box and the Lilywhites went further behind though an own goal.
Dundalk were unlucky not to pull a goal back through Dwayne McCourt in added time. The Bohs goalkeeper sent the long ball up the field and the home side made it 4-0 on the stroke of full time.
When speaking with dundalkfc.com after the game, Manager Liam Burns, said: “Although it is not the result that we wanted I am really happy with the performance in such bad conditions. We kept possession and we were comfortable with the ball.
“It wasn’t a 4-0 game I don’t think. We will take the positives from the game and if we keep playing like that then we wont be too far away at the end of the season.”
